I am so excited to share this maternity session with you! As you may know, I am primarily a studio maternity photographer, so I don’t often get the chance to have sessions outdoors. However, when I do, I like to choose some of the best locations that the DMV has to offer.
For this momma, I decided to have her session at Great Falls Park. When chatting with her, I absolutely loved her personality. After learning that this was her first pregnancy, I wanted to make the location special, just like her. A maternity session at Great Falls Park felt like the perfect choice to capture this significant moment.
What made this session a little different than the rest is the custom maternity top that I created with her in mind. I knew the golden hues at this location were going to be perfect, so I wanted to add a piece in her maternity session that would not only complement her and the location but would also add a little bit of fashion edginess that I like adding in for my clients.
The top fit mom perfectly, and she couldn’t have looked more stunning in it! But let’s back up to the first two shots. For the first look, I wanted it to be the standard that I do – the couples. A beautiful dress for mom and a suit for Dad. Dad was a real trooper because it was hot that evening, but he wore it and posed like it was nothing.
Putting them against the green scenery that Great Falls offers allowed them to pop among the colors, which is something I love to do in my work. Then we moved down to the beach area, where the real magic happened. This beautiful spot couldn’t have been more perfect for this session.
For the first outfit on the beach, Mom wore a jeweled studded bodysuit with a robe from my wardrobe, which added a beautiful, elegant look. This was right at Golden Hour, so the golden hues against the nude outfit were absolutely stunning, highlighting her beautiful bump and glow! I even got to play with my star filter and if you look really closely you can see it showing in the golden haze!
Now back to the last look. Using the little light we had left, we got to the piece of the night! This piece couldn’t have made mom look more editorial. The soft golden hues as golden hour turned into twilight and the unique top created a dramatic and memorable finish to the session.
It was an absolute joy to photograph this momma’s maternity photoshoot at Great Falls Park. To see what images mom decided to walk away with, scroll to the bottom! A stunning maternity gallery if you ask me! I loved every moment, from the natural backdrops to the fashionable looks we created. Outdoor sessions like this remind me of the beauty that the DMV area holds and how it can add a magical touch to such a special time in a mother’s life.
