Moving to a new city is never easy—especially one as fast-paced and sprawling as Los Angeles. But as a maternity photographer, I’ve learned that no matter where I go, connection is everything. I arrived in LA with a vision: to bring my signature style of bold, empowering maternity photography to moms who wanted more than just “pretty pictures.” I wanted to create experiences.
Recently, I had the privilege of photographing an incredible mom-to-be who reminded me exactly why I do this work. This session was the perfect blend of celebration, strength, and sparkle—and it’s exactly the kind of magic you can expect when planning your maternity pictures in Los Angeles with me.
Starting with Vision: How We Planned Her Maternity Shoot
Before any camera comes out, I always begin with a video consult. This is the time when mom shares with me her vision for her. session. She could want something thats simple or bold and creative. This mom knew she wanted; something glamorous, modern, and a little out-of-the-box. We talked about styling, colors, music, and movement. She also showed me her inspiration on Pinterest which was a great starting point for me. We shared options from my wardrobe, including a bejeweled bodysuit that felt like it was made for her.

Lighting That Speaks: Creating a Neon Dream
Unlike most maternity sessions in Los Angeles that happen outdoors, this one was photographed entirely in-studio, where my creativity can truly come alive. Because mom wanted a look that was elevated and modern, I knew color gels were a must.
Shooting in a controlled space allowed me to play with light, sculpt shadows, and highlight her bump with bold color. I wanted her to feel like she belonged on the cover of a magazine—but also like she was having a blast. Her fun personality needed to shine through, and we made sure it did.

After we finished the color gel set, we switched to shooting against the studio’s beautiful limewash wall. Its muted green tones reminded me of some mini sets I’ve styled in the past, so I already knew it would pair beautifully with one of my green fabric pieces. That second look brought a softer, ethereal vibe to round out the session before we moved on to our final setup.
The Experience: Music, Movement & Magic
One of my favorite parts of this session was how free it felt. I curated a playlist based on our consult, filled with empowering and vibey tracks that let her move with ease. She flowed through poses, danced a little, laughed a lot, and trusted me fully. The result? Images that feel alive.
That’s something I’m passionate about offering my LA clients—maternity photography that doesn’t just look good, but feels good while you’re in it.
